Standing atop Mt. Everest, a well known mountaineer had a big challenge to
tackle, to climb down safely without putting himself in danger. In the
mountains, it is obvious that one faces disasters, hurdles and sometimes
nature's fury. The courage and adventure involved in facing such adversities
attracts many people to mountaineering.
Chakram Hikers has always been on its toes to provide its members updated
knowledge and information on various subjects to make their walk in the
wild, safe. On the occasion of its Silver Jubilee Celebration in the year
2007-08, Chakram Hikers published this manual which will help to handle
emergencies which arise in the mountains.
The first few chapters of the manual have been devoted to preparation for a
trek, environmental factors, common do's & don'ts on a trek, accommodation
etc. The next part provides information on First Aid and Medical Emergencies
in outdoors. Also information about fire hazards, emergency contact nos.,
rescue by air-lifting, Insurance etc. has been covered in the manual.
The aim of this manual is to create awareness about preservation of
environment and helping wanderers to handle the emergencies while on
mountains. We hope everyone reading this manual finds it useful. The manual
is available at a minimal cost at the office.
