Sahyankan 2024 Route
Sahyankan
Sahyankan is one of the most popular flagship programs of Chakram Hikers, involving a 5 to 6-day trek that traverses a mountain range in the Sahyadris. Organized every alternate year in the remote regions of the Sahyadris / Western Ghats, the trek takes participants through dense forests, formidable forts, challenging climbs, and rugged terrain. As part of Sahyankan, lectures are also conducted on subjects such as history, archaeology, astronomy, rock climbing, and related fields. Over the past 40 years, Chakram Hikers has successfully organized twenty-one Sahyankan programs and continues to carry this legacy forward. In all these years, thousand odd trekkers have been associated with Sahyankan, directly or indirectly.
For more than four decades, Sahyankan has attracted enthusiastic trekkers from diverse age groups and backgrounds. Through this initiative, Chakram Hikers has built a unique bond with people from various sections of society. Sahyankan has played a significant role in creating awareness among the younger generation about Maharashtra’s geo-historical heritage, natural environment, historic forts, and monuments.
Sahyankan has received incredible encouragement from eminent laureates who have applauded this mission of Chakram Hikers. In a personal letter to the organization, Shri Gopal Nilkanth Dandekar (Go Ni Da)—renowned author and recipient of the Sahitya Academy Award—expressed his thoughts on Maharashtra’s heritage and inspired the youth to participate in Sahyankan.
