Surgad to Sarasgad Trek – The Untrodden Path
3 DaysRoute Details
These twin forts, dating back to the Satavahana era, are located near Nagothane–Pali and were built to guard the routes connecting the Konkan ports to the plateau above the Western Ghats. Trekking along the mountain ridge and a very scenic route that links the two forts was a delightful experience.
This trek is rarely attempted these days, offering a chance to explore an unfamiliar and less-travelled mountain trail. The trek route from Surgad is less explored till Saticha Maal (Dongar) which is adjacent to Surgad and separated by only a very narrow Khind. The descend to Saticha Maal is very steep consisting of broken steps, scree and slippery patches covered with dry grass. Proper precaution needs to be taken on this section while descending. Route from Saticha Maal to Varadayini temple follows a narrow yet defined path through forest sections, waterfalls and maal raan. From Varadayini temple to Zaap village is well defined route through fields and very less tree cover.Â
